The café culture in India is about to receive a touch of British elegance as EL&N, the UK-based boutique café group, embarks on its journey into the Indian market. In partnership with Reliance Brands, EL&N aims to capitalize on the surging demand for premium café experiences in India. This article explores EL&N’s expansion plans and the broader landscape of the coffee industry in the country.
EL&N Café’s Global Success
EL&N, short for “Eat, Love, and Nourish,” has become synonymous with opulent interior décor and the claim of being the world’s ‘most Instagrammable café.’ The journey began in August 2017 when EL&N opened its first café in London. Today, it operates an impressive network of 27 stores around the globe, with India marking its eighth international market.
The Middle East has been a focal point of EL&N’s global expansion, boasting 12 stores across Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, and the UAE. With an established presence in France and Italy as well, the café group has also appointed Lagardère Travel Retail as its exclusive franchisee for travel locations and initiated regional expansion within the UK.

Reliance Brands’ Partnership with EL&N
Reliance Brands, a prominent player in India’s retail sector and the franchise partner for UK-based chain Pret A Manger, recently announced its franchise partnership with EL&N. This collaboration is part of Reliance Brands’ strategy to bring unique and premium café experiences to the Indian market.
India’s Growing Appetite for Premium Café Experiences
India’s out-of-home coffee segment is experiencing significant growth, primarily driven by younger consumers who seek novel and premium café experiences. Established global coffee chains like Costa Coffee and Starbucks have witnessed revenue growth in India over the past year. However, newer international entrants also see untapped potential in the country.
Canada’s Tim Hortons, for instance, plans to open 120 stores in India following its entry into the market in August 2022. Australia’s The Coffee Club is set to debut in India this year through a franchise partnership with CK Israni Group. Dunkin’s Indian franchisee, Jubilant FoodWorks Limited, has introduced a new store design catering to the growing demand for high-quality café experiences and premium beverages across the country. Additionally, Singaporean private equity firm Everstone Group has signed a franchise agreement to launch branded Lavazza cafés in India.

The arrival of EL&N in India through its partnership with Reliance Brands heralds a new era of premium café experiences in the country. With its opulent interiors and Instagram-worthy offerings, EL&N is well-poised to capture the attention and taste buds of Indian consumers. As India’s coffee culture continues to evolve and expand, EL&N’s entry into the market reflects a broader trend of international café brands recognizing the immense potential of India’s thriving café scene. Stay tuned for EL&N’s grand debut as it brings a taste of Instagrammable luxury to coffee aficionados in India.
